The Snack Attack: Turn Your Oven Into A Campfire With Pillsbury S'mores Rolls [TASTE TEST]

Making s'mores over the campfire is one of the best things about summer. Now, you can bring the party inside and turn your oven into the campfire with Pillsbury's new S'mores Rolls.

It's a spin on the Doughboy's classic cinnamon rolls -- but instead of cinnamon, the roll is stuffed with chocolate. And it comes with a marshmallow icing instead of cream cheese based icing.

S'mores for breakfast? YES, PLEASE!

The dough was a little hard to separate and some of the rolls ended up coming undone because they weren't perforated enough. But after baking for 23 - 29 minutes, the dough rolls transformed into golden mounds of s'mores deliciousness.

I have to say that there's no way the amount of icing you get is supposed to cover all five rolls -- I ran out after coating just three of them, so needless to say the two naked rolls were casualties.

These will only be around for a limited time though, so if you like s'mores you should definitely give them a try.

Review: Pillsbury Grands! S'mores Rolls

Appearance: I was expecting more chocolate. Maybe it just baked into the dough, but the chocolate seemed to disappear as the raw rolls warmed into their cooked form.

Aroma: As these were cooking, they smelled SO GOOD -- like fresh brownies or chocolate cookies. But the smell never really reminded me of s'mores. Not even with the icing, which kind of just smelled like sugar.

Taste: I know there isn't any cinnamon in these, but my first bite honestly tasted like a cinnamon roll -- and I think it's because of the dough. It doesn't have any kind of graham cracker flavor, like I was hoping it would have, it's just dense biscuit dough. It could have just been a mental thing though, because when I went for the center -- and lets be honest, the center of the roll is the best part -- it was chocked full of gooey chocolate flavor combined with melty marshmallow icing. While we're talking about icing, it doesn't taste like "real" marshmallows on its own, but more like the crunchy kind you find in cereal or hot chocolate. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Pros: Um, hello -- chocolate for breakfast, people!

Cons: My biggest issue with these is there's not enough icing or chocolate filling. They are also a bit too doughy and lacking any graham cracker flavor. Honestly, they don't really taste like s'mores at all.

Rating: 4 out of 10 -- It was a valiant effort and a nice alternative to a cinnamon roll, but these sadly missed the s'mores mark.
