Tests Show Port Huron Woman Killed By Dogs Was Drunk, On Drugs

PORT HURON (WWJ/AP) - Tests show a young woman who climbed a fence into a Port Huron yard and was mauled to death by dogs was drunk and had used cocaine and marijuana.

The Dec. 3 death of 22-year-old Rebecca Hardy has been ruled a suicide because authorities believe she knew the risk of climbing over a fence and entering the yard of a home in the 1700-block of 10th Street, where the dogs were contained.

Toxicology results were released Friday.

Oakland County medical examiner L.J. Dragovic said Hardy had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 — nearly three times the threshold for drunken driving at the time of her death. He doesn't know when Hardy had last used marijuana and cocaine; although cocaine rapidly breaks down, he said.

A pit bull, a husky and a pit bull-husky mix were euthanized with the owner's consent following the killing.

Investigators said Hardy had been kicked out of her home, where she lived with her 18-month-old daughter and fiancée about a block away, on the day she was mauled to death.

The St. Clair County prosecutor's office will decide whether to take any further action.
