Testimony To Resume For Bob Bashara In Quest For New Trial

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit-area man convicted of having his wife killed so he could devote himself to a life of bondage and domination is scheduled to resume testifying in his quest for a new trial.

Bob Bashara is to return to the stand on Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court.

The 57-year-old Bashara began testifying last week. He wants his first-degree murder conviction and life sentence thrown out, saying his rights were violated by an ineffective defense.

A jury in December convicted Bashara of murder in the 2012 death of Jane Bashara, whose body was found inside her Mercedes-Benz in a Detroit alley.

Prosecutors have said Bob Bashara coerced handyman Joe Gentz into strangling her at the couple's Grosse Pointe Park home. Gentz is in prison after a second-degree murder conviction.
