All lanes of southbound Telegraph Road were closed at 10 Mile Road following the tragic crash late Wednesday afternoon and reopened shortly after 7 p.m.

According to witnesses, the victim was a student at nearby Bradford Academy.

"I talked to a couple of students who knew her. They say she was very bright, very pretty," WWJ's Sandra McNeill reported from the scene. "Apparently she had run across the street to Burger King to get something to eat, came back and was hit by more than one car."

A distraught driver telling WWJ's Sandra McNeill that he could not avoid hitting the girl.

The victim's name and age were not immediately released. Authorities confirmed the incident, but did not confirm any information about the victim.

An investigation is ongoing. Police remained on the scene during the busy afternoon commute, and motorists were urged to avoid the area.

Grief counselors will be on hand at Bradford Academy to help students cope with the loss of their classmate.
