Teen Shot In Head Dies As Police Continue To Hunt For Killer

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Lansing police say a 17-year-old boy who was shot in head last weekend has died from his injuries.

Richard Pruitt was taken off of life-support on Thursday, five days after he was shot inside a town house in the 5800 block of S. Martin Luther King Boulevard, north of I-96 in Lansing.

Police said the shooter fired a single shot from outside the house, which struck Pruitt in the face. Four other people who were inside the home were uninjured.

Police said they don't believe the shooting was random and that Pruitt was targeted but so far, no arrests have been made.

At a Thursday news conference, Sheri Pruitt, the teen's mother, said her son was involved in an altercation Friday night after a rap performance that might have led to the shooting, the Lansing State Journal reported.

The gunman is described as a black male, about 5'10" tall, with a thin build. At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a black t-shirt and light-blue jeans, and had a black shirt covering his face. He is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 517-483-6859 or Crime Stoppers at 517-483-7867.
