Teen Killed In High-Speed Rollover Crash In Northwest Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say one teenager is dead and another is under arrest after a high-speed crash in northwest Detroit.

The accident happened Tuesday evening at Rosemont and Van Buren avenues, in a neighborhood just west of the Southfield Freeway and Joy Road.

Authorities say a Ford Taurus was traveling at such a high rate of speed that when the 19-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, it flipped several times before smashing into a tree.

A 16-year-old boy who was riding in the passenger seat was killed. The driver initially fled on foot after the crash, but police say he eventually returned to the scene and was taken into custody.

The man was wanted on several outstanding warrants for other traffic violations, according to police.

Names of those involved have not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
