Teen Held After Young Woman Found Dead In Woods

GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP (AP) - Authorities say a 16-year-old is in custody after the body of a young woman was found in a wooded area in western Michigan.

The Kent County sheriff's department says in a statement the death of 18-year-old McKenna Elizabeth Hilton of Grand Rapids is being investigated as homicide.

An autopsy is planned Friday.

The person in custody also was from Grand Rapids. Additional details weren't immediately released, pending a review from prosecutors.

The sheriff's department says Hilton's body was found Thursday near a trail that's near Emerald Lake in Grand Rapids Township. Investigators initially sought help from the public in identifying her and said she appeared to have died recently, likely in the last day.
