PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit-area man has been ordered to stand trial on first-degree murder and child abuse charges in the death of his 7-month-old son.

Pontiac District Judge Ronda Fowlkes Gross on Friday ordered 18-year-old Damon Honer to be bound over to circuit court.

Honer's son Adien Logan died of blunt force trauma a day and a half after being taken to a hospital in late February with significant swelling of his brain.

Oakland County Sheriff's Sgt. Steven Troy said Honer initially told investigators that the child's head was struck accidently on a railing. Later, he said the boy's head hit a windowsill after he shook him when the baby wouldn't stop crying, Troy said. The child's 16-year-old mother was sleeping when her son was injured, according to reports.

Cheryl Loewe, the county's deputy forensic pathologist, testified Friday during Honer's preliminary examination that Adien's skull was fractured into multiple pieces and that the child's death was not accidental.

The fractures represent "not just one blow, but probably multiple" blows, Loewe said. "The skull was shattered."

Honer remains held at the Oakland County Jail without bail.
