Teen Caught With Gun In Backpack At School

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - A high school student is in trouble after a gun was found in his backpack.

Superintendent George Heitch said the handgun was discovered at the end of the school day Wednesday at Harrison High School. Officials reportedly found the weapon by following a tip through social media.

"We acted quickly and recovered an unloaded handgun from a student backpack," said Heitch.

School officials contacted police, who confiscated the gun and took the student into custody. He remains in custody at Oakland County Children's Village. Charges are pending.

"The school responded appropriately with the police department," said Heitch. "Harrison is a strong and successful school and we don't want this one incident to define our students or our staff or our Harrison community."

An investigation is ongoing.
