Tanker Truck Flips, Leaking Fuel Onto I-94 Near Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Motorists are being asked to avoid I-94  near Ann Arbor for the next several hours after a tanker truck rolled over, spilling fuel onto the freeway.

Before noon Friday, only the left lane was open along eastbound I-94 at US 23, and the US 23 to eastbound I-94 and eastbound I-94 to northbound US 23 ramps were closed.

One person was taken by EMS from the scene to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, late Friday morning.

It's unclear what caused the accident.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office asked that motorists find an alternate route as cleanup will continue for the next three to six hours.

WWJ's Lorna Stevens reported traffic was backed up almost to State Street.
