Take Heart! Spring Is Officially Just Weeks Away

DETROIT (WWJ) - Spring doesn't officially arrive for another three-and-a-half weeks but for many of us, it can't get here fast enough. A lot of metro Detroiters have had their fill of the wintry white stuff.

"I"m getting tired of it - beyond belief. I can't wait until summer gets here," said one Detroiter.

Accuweather's Dean DeVore says February 2015 will likely end up as one of the top five coldest months in 140-plus years of recorded weather history

"The coldest goes back to February 1875, when the average temperature was 12.2 - more recently ... in January 1977 it was 12.8 for the average," said DeVore.

We'll be stuck with these frigid temps most of the week. The deep freeze is still gripping Michigan, plunging temperatures well below zero across most of the state and breaking records in several places.

The National Weather Service says the temperature in the Saginaw, Bay City and Midland area was 10 below zero early this morning -- shattering the Tri-Cities record of -2. Other places breaking records are Grand Rapids at -8 and Traverse City at -16.

Dean says another arctic blast is blowing into town late Tuesday and won't be leaving until the weekend.

Detroit checks in at -2, about 6 degrees warmer - so to speak - than its recorded low set in 1889.

Spring officially arrives March 20.
