Swimmer Rescued From Heavy Surf Off Rocks In Lake Superior

MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) -- A person who went swimming in Lake Superior off Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula has been rescued after becoming stranded on an offshore rock formation.

The Mining Journal of Marquette reports Monday that a rescue swimmer was able to get a personal flotation device on a line to the person Sunday. They then swam through heavy surf to a nearby beach.

Two people went swimming in the lake late Sunday morning. One made it back to the beach, while the other made it to safety on the rock formation.
