Suspect Takes Off After Crashing Burned Van Through Detroit Storefront

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for a suspect who drove a van into a storefront during a suspected smash and grab robbery on the city's east side.

The incident happened early Wednesday morning at Cell and Clothing Inc. on Morang and Roxbury, in a neighborhood near I-94 and Cadieux Road.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell said it appears the interior of the van was set on fire and then driven into the building. The store's windows and security bars were pushed out onto the sidewalk, as if they were broken from inside.

Police wouldn't discuss details, and it's not clear how much merchandise or money the suspect made off with.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600.
