Supreme Court Could Put Same-Sex Marriage Issue On Docket In 2015

DETROIT (WWJ) - We could find out in the beginning of the new year whether gay marriage will be legalized in Michigan. The U.S. Supreme Court could decide as early as January 9 to add same-sex marriage to their calendar this term.

"We have a very good feeling about the U.S. Supreme Court hearing the case and they are going to consider whether to hear the case on January 9 ... and the reason we feel pretty confident that they will choose Michigan's case is because we have a trial - is because it's a unique case," said Dievendorf.

Lawyers for same-sex couples in Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee have been rushing to file legal papers in time for the January conference.

"Our definition of marriage applied far beyond marriage but to any partnership and that meant that it extended to adoption, it extended to domestic partnership benefits and of course, our case was also an adoption case," said Dievendorf, "so, it's unique in that it applies to a great number of things. It applies to the health of the family."
