Street Team chills at Meridian Winter Blast

Downtown Detroit's Campus Martius was jam-packed with thousands of people this weekend for the Meridian Winter Blast.

The Meridian Winter Blast teamed up with Matrix Human Services to help those in need during the winter. All that was needed for admission was either $2, three canned goods or a children's book.

The event featured a towering, 30-foot snow slide (yes, it was made completely of tightly packed snow,) live music, free hot chocolate courtesy of Tim Horton's and even a zip line.

"It's a really unique winter experience" said the producer of Meridian Winter Blast, Jonathan Witz. "We embrace winter in Michigan and seeing the families having a great time is really rewarding and also showing the progress of the city is the same."

"Campus Martius is a great place to take girls and your friends" said Zach Livingston. "So here I am."

One of the biggest attractions was the zip line, and although the Street Team was too afraid to ride it, Shakyla Willis did.

"It felt very exciting," said Willis. "I felt like I was actually flying."

The Meridian Winter Blast was a huge success and it was for a great cause. The Street Team is excited to return next year.
