Street Beat: Small Business Plays A Role In Detroit's Turnaround

This week on Street Beat host, Jill Washburn, talks about Detroit's turnaround and the role that small business is playing in it. First, Jill visits with Markeith Weldon of Weldon Enterprise Global IT. He talks about starting his IT staffing business in Detroit and the opportunities that exist for small businesses in Detroit.

Next, Jill dropped in on the McClure brothers, Bob and Joe, to find out why moving their growing business to the city of Detroit was the best answer for them, and how bright they think the future is, both for their company and for the city.

Then, Jill stopped by Sweet Potato Sensations to chat with Espy Thomas about the process of growing her family's bakery and cafe in Detroit, and how they are meeting the challenges and focusing on growth for their business, and the surrounding neighborhood.

Finally, Carla Walker-Miller stops by our studios to talk about her business, Walker-Miller Energy Services. From her very small start to some major setbacks, Carla describes how she was able to evolve her company into a solid player, and employer, in the energy business.
