Street Beat: September Medical Events

This week on Street Beat, host Amyre Makupson looks at upcoming events benefiting organizations helping people who are dealing with disease.

First, Makupson learns about sickle cell disease, a blood disorder that primarily affects African Americans, from Dr. Wanda Whitten-Shurney, the CEO and Medical Director for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Michigan Chapter.

Then, Tammy Willis, the Executive Director of the Michigan chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; and Liz Trapp, the Senior Manager, Healthcare Provider Engagement, explain what MS is.

Finally, Erin Kelly, the Development and Outreach Specialist for the Cancer Support Community of Ann Arbor, and Jane Ford, Coordinator of the Sprout Love Initiative at the Cancer Support Community, share background on this organization and how it helps cancer survivors.
