WATCH Street Beat: Keeping Kids In School

This week on Street Beat, host Amyre Makupson takes an in depth look at what it takes to help kids thrive in school.

First, Sonja Alan, the CEO of Communities in Schools Metro Detroit explains how the community partnerships can help improve the success rate for  students.

Then, ACE Academy-Woodward Place is a special program designed to help children in the judicial system.   Monica Martin, superintendent of edtec schools, and Kia Holmes, the Director of Operations for ACE Academy, explain how it works.

Next,  Dara Munson, the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters, introduces their 100 Mentors in 100 Days program and shows how mentoring will help children thrive.

Finally, the Michigan Humanities Council encourages education through the arts.  Judith Dworkin, the Poetry Out Loud program officer, and Communications Officer Kate Bartig, share the details.
