Street Beat: Job Training

This week on Street Beat, host Rob Stone talks about the world of training and employment, and how it is evolving.  First, Rob welcomes Jim Sawyer from Macomb County Community College.  They discuss how the world of labor has changed, and what workers have had to do to keep up, and move up, in that world, and how programs at Macomb teach workers the skills they need to know to be successful in an ever-evolving work environment.

Next, Rob chats with Athena Miller from Focus: HOPE about their job training programs.  Athena talks about how the programs at Focus: HOPE prepare people to enter the workforce, including getting students up to speed on basic skills that they lack, and preparing them for some of the more high-tech fields that are now common in the work world.

Then, Rob sits down with Tara Miceli from the Walsh Institute.  They discuss the stumbling blocks that can stunt a business' growth.  They also talk about the value of things like training and developing a business' staff, and why concepts like mentoring and networking are a must.

Finally, Rob chats with ZaLonya Allen from the SE Michigan Entrepreneurs Association.  ZaLonya talks about how to get a small business to the next level, why it's crucial to hire great people, and why this year's Small Business Conference & Expo is not to be missed.
