Street Beat: Hunger And Nutrition

On Saturday, June 13 host Amyre Makupson finds out about ways to be sure that Detroiters are getting enough food and the right kind of nutrition. First, two experts from the Wayne County Department of Public Health - Deborah Wendt, the Wic Program Manager, and Diane Ewell the Breastfeeding Coordinator – discuss the importance of nutrition for pregnant and breastfeeding women and for children under five. Then, Bert Copple from Home Instead Senior Care, explains the importance of the "Sunday Dinner Pledge" and why it can help improve the lives and health of seniors.

Then Lowell Westmoreland a spokesperson for Community Sharing Outreach Center and Kelley Kirchner, the Center's Casework Manager, explain how Community Sharing is helping feed families in need. Finally, Kirk Mayes, CEO of Forgotten Harvest, discusses the organization's 25 years of feeding the hungry.
