Street Beat: Crime & Safety

This week on Street Beat, host Rob Stone discusses crime & safety in our community.  First, Rob chats with US Attorney, Barbara McQuade, about the Detroit One initiative.  They talk about which law enforcement groups are involved, how prosecution plays a role, and what roles the community and social media play, as well.

Next up, Rob talks with Detroit Police Chief James E. Craig about Neighborhood Watch groups.  They cover what the groups do, how effective they are, how they help the police and the neighborhoods, and what citizens need to do to start and maintain a group in their neighborhoods.  Chief Craig also offers tips on what every homeowner can do to keep his or her property safe.

Rob's next guest is Jim Graham, the manager of Ford's Driving Skills for Life program.  Their discussion covers some of the hot-button issues for highway safety, how changes in drug laws are creating new challenges on our freeways, the distractions that drivers face, and how driver inexperience can be overcome.

Rob's final guest is Paul Strelchuk, Fire Chief of Oakland Township.  They go over the biggest mistakes that homeowners make in regard to fire safety, the use of smoke detectors & fire evacuation plans, safe use of fireplaces, and whether or not burning yard waste is a good idea.
