Street Beat: Helping The Homeless
Approximately 20,000 people are homeless in Detroit. This week on Street Beat, host Lisa Germani talks with organizations about homelessness and how you can get involved.
First, she learns about the Tiny Homes being built in Detroit from Rev. Faith Fowler, the Executive Director of Cass Community Social Services.
Then, Frankie Piccirilli, Chief Development Officer of COTS (Coalition on Temporary Shelter) talks about the issues facing homeless families.
Next, two college students created an apparel company in their basement that donated to the homeless for each item sold. The York Project founder, Josh York, explains how the organization has grown.
Finally, we change directions to look at a very serious topic: prescription drug addiction. Kyle Couch, the producer of "Life Prescribed," a new locally produced film based on true events, stops by to discuss this important subject and his new film.
