This week on Street Beat, host April Moss looks at ways to improve early education, especial for at risk children.

First Nikolai P. Vitti, the new Superintendent for the Detroit Public Schools Community District, stops by to share what is happening at DPS, the importance of the upcoming Count Day, and why programs like Mike Morse's Backpack Giveaway encourage young children.

Then, Sandi Matz, President of National Council of Jewish Women - Greater Detroit Section; and SallyJo Levine, a Co-Chair of the Back 2 School Store; talk about their yearly event that benefits a Detroit-area school.

Next Associate Professor Amy Noelle Parks – and Assistant Professor Bethany Wilinski from the Michigan State University's department of Teacher Education, discuss what teachers need to know to help at risk students.
