Storms, Fierce Winds Leave Thousands Without Power Across Southeast Michigan

DETROIT (WWJ) - Storms packing quite the punch are causing major power problems across southeastern Michigan, leaving nearly 30,000 homes and businesses off the grid.

DTE Energy said Friday morning that the largest outage is near New Baltimore and Fair Haven, where nearly 3,000 people are without power. Another large outage is near Milford, where 1,600 homes and businesses are in the dark.

More than 2,000 outages are reported near Waterford, while outages are reported near 13 Mile and Southfield Road in Beverly Hills. WWJ is also getting reports about downed power lines in Detroit.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts of more than 40 miles per hour were reported in Mt. Clemens and Grosse Ile.
