Stolen U-Haul Leads Police On Nearly 20 Mile Chase Down I-94, Crashes Into Patrol Cars [PHOTOS]

GROSSE POINTE SHORES (WWJ) - A traffic stop in Macomb County resulted in a police chase that came to a crashing end in Grosse Pointe Shores when the suspect smashed into multiple patrol cars.

The incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. Wednesday when Michigan State Police attempted to stop a stolen U-Haul box truck near 21 Mile and I-94 in Chesterfield Township.

Police say the box truck fled from troopers, who called in Macomb County Sheriff's deputies to assist. The chase went onto I-94 for nearly 20 miles, stretching into Wayne County, before the stolen truck crashed into police cruisers and ended up on the front lawn of a home on Lakeshore Drive near Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Shores.

The driver and a passenger in the U-Haul were taken into custody at the crash scene, according to police.

Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said two troopers were injured during the incident; one suffered a concussion and the other has a sore neck. A deputy also suffered minor injuries.
