Steam Locomotive To Make Michigan-Indiana Trips

ALLEN PARK (AP) — A restored steam engine is back on the tracks this weekend, making round-trip runs from the Detroit area to Fort Wayne, Indiana, with members of the public aboard.

The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and Norfolk Southern Corp. plan to run the Nickel Plate No. 765 on Saturday and Sunday during the opening weekend of the Three Rivers Festival. "The Detroit Arrow" departs Allen Park in the morning and returns in the evening.

The 765 was built in 1944 and was considered a super-locomotive because it reached speeds of about 70 mph. The rail society was incorporated in 1972 to care for and restore the locomotive.
