State Re-Launches Program To Block Unwanted Ads On Your Child's Electronic Devices

LANSING (WWJ) - If you're concerned about your kids receiving ads for alcohol, tobacco, and gambling on their electronic devices, there's a way you can block them.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson is re-launching Michigan's Child Protection Registry to block kids from receiving inappropriate messages on their cell phones and other electronic devices.

"It's kind of like we have a playground without a fence around it," said Johnson.

"We know that 22 percent of Michigan's population is under the age of 18, which is remarkable, that's a very large population and a lot of times those are the kids getting these types of ads. So right now, half of Michigan's public school districts are using this system, individuals can to, it's safe, secure and it's free."

She says it's important to have something like ProtectChildrenMI.com to protect kids - so that there's a way to filter out unwanted images and ads on their electronic devices.

Johnson says you can register your child, under the age of 18, for the free service [HERE].
