State Police Chase Ends With 1 Man Fatally Shot, Another Wounded

PORTAGE, Mich. (AP) - A passenger in a vehicle has been shot to death and the driver wounded after they led police on a chase in southwestern Michigan.

Police initially tried to stop the vehicle about 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Kalamazoo County. It was stopped about 30 minutes later in a parking lot at Anna's Vineyard Apartments in Portage, south of Grand Rapids.

State police Lt. Dale Hinz said one of the men had a weapon resembling an assault rifle.

Resident Jessica Kruizenga tells WOOD-TV that she heard a commotion, looked outside and saw officers shoot into the vehicle.

No officers were hurt. Police say the driver was wanted on an obstruction and resisting charge.
