State Offers Help In Finding Deer Hunting Spots

LANSING (AP) — If you're looking for a place to hunt deer this fall, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering to help.

The DNR's Hunting Access Program offers financial incentives to private landowners for giving hunters access to their property.

Wildlife biologist Mike Parker says more than 140 farms and nearly 16,000 acres are available under the program. It began in 1977 to boost hunting opportunities in southern Michigan, where 97 percent of the land base is privately owned.

A second tool is the Mi-HUNT Web application, which creates custom maps for Michigan's public hunting lands.

Hunters can use it to view select private lands open to the public for hunting, plus state game and wildlife areas and recreational facilities such as forest campgrounds, trails and boat ramps.
