State Of City Address To Be Held In Detroit Neighborhood

DETROIT (AP) - Mayor Mike Duggan's State of the City address will be held in the Redford Theatre in northwest Detroit.

The annual event is scheduled for Feb. 10.

The Redford Theatre opened in 1928 as a neighborhood movie house. Last year's speech was given at City Hall.

Duggan's announced in his first State of the City address last year that his office would ramp up demolitions of vacant houses. More than 3,000 were torn down in 2014.

This year's speech will be the first since Detroit exited bankruptcy in December. The city plans to remove and restructure $7 billion in debt, while using $1.7 billion in savings and revenue over a decade to improve city services.
