Star-Studded "Top Five" Is A Waste of Top Talent [REVIEW]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Funnyman Chris Rock brings his much-talked-about film, "Top Five," to theaters this weekend. Rock wrote, directed and stars in the film, which is about a New York City comedian-turned-film star named Andre Allen.

In "Top Five," Allen is pushed into being interviewed by New York Times journalist Chelsea Brown, portrayed by Rosario Dawson. While conducting her day-long interview – which Allen is initially reluctant to do – Brown manages to get Allen to look back at his career, which sets the stage for some revealing moments from his past -- including a visit to Houston where he once performed stand-up. And it's in a Houston hotel room where some of the most disgusting and unfunny scenes take place. While some people who attended an early screening of the film were laughing out loud, I was appalled; and I wasn't the only one.

The producers describe "Top Five" as "an original and radically new kind of American movie." That, it may be. But, it's also not very funny. And for a Chris Rock movie, that, by itself, is another reason for me to recommend a "pass" on seeing this film.

Despite the star-studded lineup, "Top Five" is a waste of some of Hollywood's top talent, and for me, it was a complete waste of time.
