Stabenow On Stopping ISIS: 'This Is Not Just About The U.S.'

WASHINGTON (WWJ) -- In the aftermath of the burning death of a Jordanian pilot by ISIS -- along with other terror attacks by the group -- leaders of both parties in the House of Representatives say President Barack Obama will have his work cut out for him.

As the President looks for congressional authority to use U.S. military force against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan says stopping ISIS should be a worldwide effort.

"I think it's everything -- I think it's cutting off their money supply, I think that it's making sure that their neighbors in the region don't tolerate this," Stabenow said. "For too long this has been seen as something that just about America or those outside the region. It's has to be everybody paying attention to this."

Stabenow said that with recent attacks, Arab countries are becoming more engaged on the issue.

"I think that's it's very important that this be a worldwide coalition that is working together in every way to stop a very dangerous group ideologues," Stabenow said.

Stabenow said that the U.S. is vulnerable to attack, that it's a credit to the tremendous effort behind the scenes to stop any terrorist plots against the U.S. since 2001.

"The Jordanian pilot is just one of the latest examples of the horror of this organization," Stabenow said. "I think it is most important that all of the Arab countries be engaged. They are becoming more engaged along with the United States -- this is not just about the United States."
