Speeding Motorcyclist Arrested After Police Chase On Southfield Freeway

DETROIT (WWJ) - A motorcyclist who tried to evade arrest on a stolen bike is now facing criminal charges following a police chase and crash on Detroit's west side.

Police say the situation unfolded just after 2 a.m. Tuesday when troopers attempted to stop a motorcycle that had no license plate for speeding on the Southfield Freeway near McNichols Road.

The motorcyclist ignored troopers and continued driving, sparking a chase, according to police. A short time later, the motorcyclist exited the freeway and crashed near 7 Mile and Meyers roads. He then fled on foot.

Troopers gave chase and observed the suspect run into a house in the 19100 block of Manor Street. After failing to respond to commands to come out, troopers made entry into the house and located the suspect hiding.

Police say the suspect continued to resist arrest and troopers were forced to deploy a Taser to gain control. At that point, he was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect complained of medical issues and was transported to Henry Ford Hospital for aches and pains and shortness of breath. He was treated and released before being lodged at the Detroit Detention Center. His name was not released.

Police say an investigation revealed the motorcycle was stolen out of Plymouth.

Charges are pending.
