Spartan Motors Plans To Build New $5.5 Million Plant

CHARLOTTE, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Spartan Motors -- which makes chassis for fire trucks, RVs and other vehicles -- plans to build a new $5.5 million manufacturing plant in mid-Michigan.

The Charlotte-based company says the 85,000-square-foot facility will manufacture and assemble diesel delivery trucks. The Lansing State Journal reports that the expansion will likely create about 55 new jobs.

The plant will be located near the company's current Charlotte campus. Construction is expected to begin next year.
