Spa Massage Therapist Enters Plea In Sex Assault Case

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - A 34-year-old massage therapist who worked at a western Michigan spa is awaiting sentencing after entering a plea to a criminal sexual conduct charge.

Lance Martinez of Grand Haven pleaded no contest Tuesday to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to reports. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing, which is set for July 28.

The case began after a woman filed a complaint with police about a Sept. 23 massage.

The charge came after another therapist from Massage Green Spa in Grand Rapids was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct. In that case, 54-year-old John Ashby is awaiting trial scheduled for next week in the alleged Feb. 28 incident.
