Southfield Student Taken Into Custody After Bringing Gun Into School

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A student at Southfield - Lathrup High School was taken into police custody Thursday after school officials were informed that he had a gun on school property.

The gun wasn't loaded but school officials say the district has a "zero tolerance" for anyone with a weapon on school property.

The school and police are not commenting about the student, how old he is, or what grade he's in. It's not clear at this point where he got the gun.

The school sent out a letter to all parents regarding the incident. There was no school lock down because the incident happened so quickly.
