Southfield City Council President Announces Entry Into Race For Mayor

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Sylvia Jordan, city council president in Southfield, announced a second run for mayor of that city.

"I am a leader. I am a collaborator, I can bring people together, I can allow people to work together, to build teams, and my leadership skills and I know that's very, very important in the position of mayor," said Jordan.

Her campaign announcement was officially made Thursday afternoon on the steps of Southfield City Hall.

Jordan says she wants to make Southfield a destination spot.

She's running on the idea of retaining business in the city, adding more night life and arts, while strengthening neighborhoods.

Jordan said her experience on the board and relationship with residents will help her succeed as mayor.

Jordan ran unsuccessfully in 2009 against then Mayor Brenda Lawrence, who served four terms in that office.

According to Hometownlife.com the race for mayor will include Southfield Councilman Ken Siver, who will resign his seat in May to file to run.
