Snyder Orders Flags Lowered For Former State Sen. Edgar Fredricks

LANSING (AP) — U.S. flags in Michigan's Capitol complex will be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday to remember former state Sen. Edgar Fredricks.

The 73-year-old Holland native died March 31. Starting in 1974, the Republican served in the Legislature for 16 years, first in the House and later in the Senate.

Gov. Rick Snyder, who ordered that flags be lowered, says Fredricks will be remembered for his "hometown loyalty and dedication to making Michigan a better place for all."

Prior to joining the Legislature, Fredricks served as the American Vice Consul to the American Embassy in Seoul, South Korea for two years. In 1990, he unsuccessfully challenged Republican U.S. Rep. Fred Upton in a congressional primary election.

Fredricks earned his bachelor's degree from Calvin College and his master's from Western Michigan University.
