Snyder OKs Concealed Carry Exemptions, Paramedic Immunity

LANSING (AP) — Prison guards and retired probation and parole officers with a concealed-carry permit can have their gun in schools and other generally off limits areas under laws signed by Gov. Rick Snyder.

Probation and parole officers and county sheriff's officers currently can carry in no-carry zones. The laws signed Monday extend the authority to retirees and active Michigan Department of Corrections officers if they received firearms training during their employment.

Snyder also signed a law protecting "Good Samaritan" paramedics and other off-duty emergency service providers from civil lawsuits when they provide uncompensated care during emergencies.

Other new laws waive firefighter exams for firefighters who have been trained and certified in other states and increase the maximum allowable length of "saddle-mount" combinations in which a truck tows a string of other vehicles.
