Snowmobiler Struck By Car, Killed While Crossing Road

EMPIRE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A snowmobiler has died after being struck by a car as he crossed a northern Michigan road.

The Grand Rapids Press and the Traverse City Record-Eagle report that the 72-year-old man from Beulah was hit about 1:20 p.m. Friday in Leelanau County's Empire Township, west of Traverse City.

His name was not released.

Police say he was trailing two other snowmobilers who crossed the road safely. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Leelanau County Undersheriff Steve Morgan tells the Record-Eagle that the car's driver and passenger were not injured.
