Snowmobiler Killed In Crash With Pickup Truck

SHINGLETON, Mich. (AP) — A 59-year-old snowmobile operator has been killed after being hit by a pickup in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

State police at the Negaunee Post say Michael Orlando of Fenton drove the snowmobile across M-94 in Shingleton in Schoolcraft County about 7:30 p.m. Friday and into the pickup's path.

The trail crossing is marked.

Orlando was pronounced dead at a hospital in Munising. The pickup driver and a passenger in the truck were not injured.

It was at least the second fatal snowmobile crash in the Upper Peninsula this week. A 37-year-old Saginaw was killed Wednesday night when he failed to negotiate a turn and hit a tree in Alger County's Au Train Township.
