Smartphone App Provides Access To Emergency Preparedness

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Michigan Department of Community Health is making it easier for residents and their families prepare for emergencies.

It's a free app for smartphones called Michigan Prepares Emergency Plan reports WWJ Health Reporter Dr. Deanna Lites.

Developed by the MDCH Office of Public Health Preparedness (OPHP), the app allows users to create, manage, and export emergency plans from their mobile devices.

On the app you can have emergency contact and health information, you can create an emergency kit for your home and list a designated meeting place for your family.

You can also get quick access to fact sheets and links you might need such as fire and flood safety.

"Smartphones are a significant part of our lives, and we keep a lot of important information and tools on our phones that we might need during an emergency," said Nick Lyon, Director of the MDCH. "With the winter months and colder weather approaching, now is the perfect time to utilize some of these resources to create a basic emergency plan and share it with family members prior to needing one."
