SMART Launches Mobile App For Riders

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Regional public transportation provider SMART has unveiled a new mobile app for iPhone and Android devices.

The RideSMARTBus mobile app provides routes, schedules, service alerts and realtime arrival information through the Bus Tracker function - SMART's realtime arrival information system which was originally launched in 2014.

"SMART is always looking for ways to improve service for our riders and the communities we serve," said John C. Hertel, General Manager, in a release. "By using technology we help our riders get the information they need when they need it and help to reduce the wait time at their stop."

The SMART bus app can be synced with a rider's personal MySMART profile which gives instant access to routes and stops. Notifications of any service changes will be sent automatically to a rider's favorite routes. The app also features the ability to look for other ways to ride SMART, with access to the Trip Planner feature for the best route to take.

Through the Bus Tracker feature, riders can follow the bus as it travels along the route toward their stop and count down the time to arrival.

Users can also find the nearest SMART stop near an address, street intersection or landmark.

The free RideSMARTBus mobile app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google play store or by visiting smartbus.org.

Commuters who utilize the Detroit Department of Transportation bus system can also download a mobile app with routes, nearest stop and trip planner from the App Store and the Google play store.
