Slippery Bargain: 30-Foot Water Slide Sold By Westland For $6,500

WESTLAND (WWJ/AP) - The buyer of a 30-foot water slide that was sold by a Detroit suburb to help generate added revenue says the $6,500 price was an incredible bargain.

Jeff Yatooma, co-owner of the Bloomfield Hills Swim and Tennis Club, snagged the structure after the Aug. 28-29 Westland garage sale. In a statement, he says: "It is by far the coolest - and biggest - thing I've purchased all year."

The slide has been out-of-use since July 2012, when the Bailey Recreation Center closed. Plans now call for the slide to be installed at the club.

"It was too good to pass up," Yatooma said. "The slide looks to be in great condition."

Other unwanted city stuff up for grabs included ovens, filing cabinets and sinks. The city says other items brought in nearly $20,000.
