Sleeping Man Survives Drop Into Garbage Truck

HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - A man sleeping in a dumpster survived an unexpected tumble into a garbage truck.

Police in Holland say they were called Friday morning on a report of a medical emergency involving a man who had been dumped and trapped inside a garbage truck.

Fire personnel used ladders to lift the 46-year-old man out of the truck, and paramedics treated him for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the man climbed into the large metal trash bin Thursday night and woke up as he was being dumped into the truck. The driver compacted the load following the pickup, but the man was able to avoid being crushed.

After picking up a second dumpster load, the driver heard yelling and pounding and stopped the compactor.
