Shoppers Caught Off Guard As Outage Suspends Service At Many Stores

LIVONIA (WWJ) - A busy stretch of Livonia and Northville Township is without power this Christmas Eve due to an outage.

The outage stretches from M-14 to near Seven Mile and west of I-275.

DTE is working to determine the cause but some people in the area are reporting hearing a minor explosion similar to a blown transformer reports WWJ's Sandra McNeill.

Sheila Sigro works at the Allandre Salon.

"I was in the middle of a body waxing on a client," Sigro laughed, "and everything flickered, flickered and then went out."

Sigro says it brought things to a halt.

"Oh, yes, well I got her eyebrows and upper lip done, so that was the most important thing."

They had to send one customer out of the salon with wet hair. We're getting reports that some major stores in the area like Meijer and Barnes and Noble are also out.

DTE expects the power to be back on by 4:30 p.m.
