Shoplifter Bites Police Officer, Escapes Arrest Before Being Apprehended Again

MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A Macomb County Sheriff's Department deputy is being treated for a non-threatening injury after being bitten by a suspected shoplifter on Saturday.

Police say the suspect was caught stealing from the Macomb Township Target and was placed under arrest before biting the deputy and getting away.

The suspect ran into a subdivision behind the store where they sneaked into an unlocked work van. The owner of the van noticed someone in the back of their van and notified police, who were already searching the area by car and helicopter.

The suspect is now in custody.
