Sheriff's Deputies Save Michigan Teen In Suicide Attempt

LAPEER (AP) — The Lapeer County Sheriff's Office is commending two deputies who saved a 16-year-old attempting to commit suicide.

The department says deputies responded to the Lapeer home on Dec. 31 after receiving a call from the teen's parents. Deputies say the boy had climbed about 20 feet up a pine tree with a rope fashioned as a noose.

After attempting to communicate with the teen, deputies say he climbed about another 10 feet. One of the deputies was able to climb the tree while his partner continued to talk to the boy.

The deputies say the teen eventually placed the rope around his neck and jumped. The department says the deputy in the tree was able to grab and cut the rope.

The department says the teen was taken for medical treatment.
