Sheriff: Trauma Killed 6-Year-Old Girl Before Lansing-Area Fire

DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A sheriff says a 6-year-old girl died of trauma before her body was found at the scene of a suspected arson in a Lansing-area apartment building.

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth said Wednesday that authorities plan to seek warrants for murder and arson-related crimes against a 25-year-old Holt man who's in custody.

He says the man was in a relationship with the girl's mother and was home alone with the girl at the time of the fire Tuesday evening.

The names of the victim and the suspect haven't been released.

Wriggelsworth says the fire in the bedroom where the girl's body was found was "obviously set."

Holt Public Schools Superintendent David Hornak says the victim was a student there and a crisis team was working with students, faculty and staff.
