'She Had No Voice, No Choice,' Says Mom Of 7-Year-Old Killed In Shooting

DETROIT (WWJ) - Keyana Johnson drove her bleeding daughter to the hospital, but she died in her arms.

Children caught in the crossfire in Detroit as an alleged dispute between women ends with shots fired through a home, killing a seven-year-old girl and critically injuring another child.

Johnson tells WWJ's Charlie Langton that her daughter Chanell Berry, 7, was shot following a dispute involving other women at the home.

Through tears the mom cried, "two days after Christmas they did this to my baby -- she had no voice and no choice."

"I did everything and my baby wondering why, 'momma, you ain't protecting me.' My baby died in my arms ... do you want to see what I'm telling you. I felt the blood gushing out of my baby," cried Keyanna.

Police say Sharonda Benson, 23 and a woman known only as Mona got into an argument Sunday night. One of the women left the home and allegedly threatened to come back and get even.

A short time later at least three shots were fired into the home killing Chanell and critically injuring the 8-year-old daughter of Mona.

Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt says Benson turned herself in for questioning early this morning and another man was arrested a short time later.  Dolunt isn't sure yet exactly who fired the shots.

"The kids didn't do anything wrong, the kids did nothing wrong - it seems more like some people were upset - they don't have common sense - just argue - they have to pull out a gun and unfortunately they did, and now two kids are shot," said Dolunt.

Dolunt says there had been a holiday party at the home, a fight broke out and someone left and returned with a gun.
